In both Germany and France, private schools are subsidized by the government. So, if you take your kid out of public school, there is a certain amount of money that goes to that child's new school. Kind of like the voucher system that many hate;
The average salary for an elementary teacher in Paris with up to 5 years experience is 2200 euros/month (over 12 months.) I don't know what the pension system is like.
The average elementary/ms class size is around 30 pupils.
Many elementary schools are closed Weds. afternoons, and open Saturday mornings.
Nice post. I've been wanting to go to the IMA for a long time. Maybe will drag the kids there soon, before we get too involved in school and such. BTW, I believe the signs in the toilets say the door opens automatically after 20 minutes! But A's French will get better, I'm sure! And last summer, I got stuck in a similar type toilet and panicked I might come out looking like I'd been through a car wash. Fortunately, I just got my feet sprayed. Horrifying!
ReplyDeleteHi Terri!
ReplyDeleteOne of my nightmares is getting stuck in a self-washing toilet. I just can't imagine! Glad to hear that it wasn't anything worse than your feet. But still..
If you go to the IMA, my best advice is to visit it in conjunction w/ something else. I'm not totally sure why it gets 3*s in all the guidebooks- I would give it 1! The best part lies outside the museum, reminding me a bit of the defunct terrace at the Samaritan - except the food is priced for Saudi budgets!
